A seemingly endless construction project on Lorne Street will be completed ahead of the Memorial Cup later this month.
That is according to Jen Fretz, the Civic Operations Director at the City of Kamloops. Fretz told Councillors on Tuesday that the project, which began in June last year, is essentially complete.
“It posed a number of different challenges for us. One of the main challenges was having to work underneath an active rail line. Things didn’t go as smoothly as we thought, and we also were hit with winter quicker than we anticipated to be,” Fretz said, when asked for an update on the project by Councillor Katie Neustaeter.
The project involved the installation of a new water main and the twinning of an existing sanitary main on Lorne Street between Mount Paul Way and 10th Avenue. It also included a new sidewalk, new asphalt, and the installation of new barrier curb and gutter.
“I’m happy to say Lorne Street has been paved,” Fretz added, noting there are lines painted on the road as well.
“The direction was get everything done so that Memorial Cup goes off without a hitch, and that will definitely happen.”
