The City of Kamloops is kicking off its second annual auction this week, to sell surplus assets and unclaimed lost or stolen items.
The auction runs from 9 a.m. on Thursday, May 25, and closes at 9 a.m. on Sunday, May 28.
The City’s Purchasing and Inventory Control Manager, Ray Sison, says there are several items up for auction this year including construction and industrial equipment.
“We have house electronics, lawn and garden, recreational, shop tools, equipment, you name it we got it,” he said. “We also have lawn mowers, a John Deere tractor lawn mower, we have old fire fighting equipment.”
“We got vehicles as well, and lost and stolen items that we’ve received from the RCMP and our community services team,” added Sison.
The auction will include close to 100 unclaimed items. With that, Sison says anyone who notices their lost or stolen item up for grabs, can claim it back by providing their name, phone number, the item description, and auction number.
“You can email us at purchasing@kamloops.ca and also Jennifer@auctions.com. We will quarantine those items and then we’ll send it back to the RCMP or the committee services team, and they will advise on the next step.”
“Our intention this year, as it was last year, is that residents might be reunited with lost or stolen property through the promotion of this event,” added Sison
Last year, Sison says the first inaugural City auction had over 300 registered bidders, noting it was a success for the entire community.
“(We) sold off the vast majority of available assets and even sparked a connection leading to the donation of an auction item to the Royal Inland Hospital to construct a gaming station for pediatric patients.”
