Kamloops Fire Rescue is set to launch a new recruitment drive this summer to bolster its candidate short-list.
But don’t expect to walk off the street and get a job.
“Our requirement at this point in time is that anybody has to have their firefighter training already completed,” Kamloops Fire Rescue Chief Ken Uzeloc told Radio NL. “So they would need their firefighter 1 and 2-level certifications already to apply.”
Uzeloc says while only candidates with firefighter training will be chosen, they can expect their recruits to eventually get advanced medical training.
“We haven’t instituted in that in the hiring process,” noted Uzeloc. “That’s a preferred, [but] it’s not a requirement yet because, we want to give people time to know that we’re making that change.”
KFR is launching Emergency Medical Response training across its ranks over the next 3-years to deal with — among other things — an increase in overdoses.
Kamloops Fire Rescue is launching its new recruitment drive to fill its short-list roster after 10 firefighters were hired to fill vacancies at the hall in Westsyde.
The recruitment drive itself will begin on June 5th.
“Competition for firefighting employment in BC is fierce. Providing a notice of interest to candidates gives candidates the time to gather all the appropriate information, forms, and tests that are needed to submit for a career position,” said Scott Johnson, Assistant Chief Operations for Kamloops Fire Rescue in a release. “The time provided allows applicants to triple-check that they have all the required materials since physical consent forms are also involved.”
Are you the Firefighter we're looking for? Are we the FD you'd love to work at? Is Kamloops a place you'd love to live and work? If you answered "yes" to all, we have some news for you…
