UPDATE 4pm: BC Hydro has restored power to all who lost it in the downtown core on Thursday.
This comes after only a dozen customers were left without power through the afternoon, following a downtown-wide outage this morning.
BC Hydro had earlier suggested the power outage, which first hit the city’s downtown area earlier this morning, might not have been completely fixed until late in the afternoon.
The initial outage affected close to 2,000 customers.
However, shortly after 8am, power had been restored to just 280 customers affecting an area encompassing a large portion of the business area of the downtown core.
As of 11:08am, BC Hydro says only 12 customers were without power.
Unconfirmed photos suggest a large truck may have backed into a power pole in the downtown core, taking down the wires.
