Episode 34 of The Blaze, presented by Warner Rentals is our Memorial Cup preview episode.
Host Jon Keen will bring you up to speed on the three teams coming to Kamloops to join the Blazers for the 103rd edition national championship of the Canadian Hockey League. The Seattle Thunderbirds will represent the WHL, the Peterborough Petes will do so for the OHL, and the Quebec Remparts will carry the flag for the QMJHL.
Jon will take you back to Wednesday’s opening Coaches Conference and look ahead to the two games of the tournament – Kamloops vs. Quebec Friday night and Seattle vs. Peterborough on Saturday.
The 2023 Memorial Cup will be Blazers’ Associate Coach Don Hay’s 8th(!) tournament. The Kamloops native has won three titles – 1994 and 1995 with the Blazers and 2007 with the Vancouver Giants. He’s the featured guest, and he’ll discuss the many changes since his first Memorial Cup 37 years ago in 1986.
It’s actually incredible.
This will be Don Hay’s 8th Memorial Cup (86, 90, 92, 94, 95, 06, 07, 23). Four times as an Assistant Coach, four times as Head Coach – winning three (94,95,07). His longevity & success is celebrated at this year’s event in #Kamloops.
