
The Kamloops Storm are mourning the loss of their trainer, Peter Friedel.
Friedel, who was also assistant trainer for the Kamloops Blazers for over three decades beginning in the 1988-89 season, died on Saturday. He had been battling several health issues over the past few years.
“Peter spent the past six seasons with us, and has been a key contributor to our programs positive growth,” the Kamloops Storm said in a tweet.
“Peter was not only an elite level trainer, he was a great friend to us all.”
Friedel’s began his time with the Blazers as a security guard at Memorial Arena. He then became an Assistant Trainer alongside Greg “Spike” Wallace and was with the the WHL franchise until 2016.
The Blazers also took to Twitter to mourn Friedel’s passing. He was part of all three Memorial Cup winning teams in 1992, 1994, and 1995.
“Our thoughts today are with long-time Assistant Trainer Pete Friedel, his family & the Kamloops Storm organization,” the Blazers said. “Pete was a valuable member of the Blazers/Jr. Oilers for over three decades.”
