The Kamloops lawyer charged with first-degree murder in the death of Thompson Rivers University lecturer Mohd Abdullah has been granted bail.
Rogelio “Butch” Bagabuyo was grated bail Wednesday by B.C. Supreme Court judge Carol Ross, on condition that he live with two relatives under house-arrest.
All of the evidence presented at Bagabuyo’s two-day bail hearing last week – including Ross’ reasons for granting him bail – is protected by a court-ordered publication ban.
Bagabuyo had been in custody since his arrest on May 12.
Prior to his arrest this year, he had been out on bail since March of last year when he was charged with interfering with human remains after he allegedly put Abdullah’s remains into a plastic bin. That charge was dropped after Bagabuyo was charged with murder in May.
Mohd Abdullah was first reported missing on March 14 after he did not show up at work at TRU that Monday. He was last seen on Friday, March 11, and his remains were found inside a vehicle on Monterey Place in Dufferin on March 17.
Lawyers are currently set to return to court on July 24 to set a date for Bagabuyo’s next appearance.
