We’re getting more details about that crash which closed down the TransCanada highway for several hours on Tuesday.
Chase RCMP say a woman in her 50’s from Sorrento was heading westbound toward Kamloops when she crossed the center line about 14-kilometers east of Chase.
Mounties say the driver of an oncoming tractor-trailer, seeing the driver coming at them in the eastbound lane, swerved to avoid the head-on collision, slamming into the retaining wall along the side of the road.
The woman in the other vehicle then plowed into the trailer the semi was hauling, with her vehicle then ending up back in the westbound lane, prompting the closure of Highway 1 in both directions.

The crash shut down the TransCanada in both directions for close to two hours, while also tying up traffic for much longer while drivers navigated single-lane, alternating around the crash site until it was fully cleared.
RCMP say the woman was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries — the extent of which are still not clear.
Mounties say witnesses reported seeing the driver cross over the center-line numerous times before the crash took place.
While the RCMP say they’re not sure what may have caused the driver to cross the center-line, they’re not ruling out impairment.
