The Kamloops Blazers have signed another one of their 2023 WHL Prospects Draft picks to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.
Ty Bonkowski is the third 2008-born player – and the first forward from the 2023 Draft class – to sign with the Blazers.
Bonkowski, a sixth round pick of the Blazers, had 32 points (nine goals and 23 assists) in 27 games with the Burnaby Winter Club U15 Prep team during the 2022-23 season.
“We would like to welcome Ty and his family to the Kamloops Blazers organization,” Blazers Head Coach and General Manager, Shaun Clouston, said. “We are excited to be a part of Ty’s development over the coming seasons.”
The Richmond native was the first forward drafted by the Blazers in the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft, 130th overall.
“Very skilled player that has great hockey sense and skillset,” Blazers’ BC Scout Scott Blakeney said of Bonkowski. “He can make plays in the offensive zone and drives the play. Really excited to be able to add a player of this calibre where we did.”
Ty had two brothers go the BCHL route but he was ready to make his own path. Some teams likely shied away given the family history.
