RCMP say charges have now been laid against Verity Bolton, along with her boyfriend, after being discovered on Saturday as part of a wide-sweeping Amber Alert which lasted close to two weeks.
Mounties confirmed the group, including the two children, Verity Bolton, her boyfriend Abraxas Glazov, along with her 74-year old father, were located on Saturday evening just outside Edson, Alberta, about 200-kilometers west of Edmonton.
“Through investigative efforts, Surrey RCMP Serious Crime Unit identified a rural property in Alberta, just outside of the town of Edson where the children were believed to be,” said the RCMP in a release. “The Alberta RCMP Emergency Response Team was engaged,” said the RCMP.
“The team entered the property where they located the two children and three adults. Verity Bolton and Abraxas Glazov were arrested and the third adult was detained,” said the RCMP. “The children were taken to their father who was waiting with investigators at a nearby Detachment in Alberta.”
Police believe the group had been at the rural property since July 18th, one day before the Amber Alert was issued by police.
45-year-old Verity Bolton has been charged with two counts of Abduction in contravention of a custody order.
Her boyfriend, 53-year-old Abraxas Scherbing-Glazov, is facing two counts of Abduction of a person under the age of 14.
Verity Bolton and Abraxas Glazov remain in custody in Alberta awaiting their next court appearance.
74-year old Robert Bolton — Verity’s father — is so far not facing any charges.
During the Amber Alert, the Mounties suggested the father may have been a victim in the disappearance, due to his diminished mental capacity.
Verity Bolton and her two children became the subject of an Amber Alert on July 19th after she failed to return the children to their father — the primary guardian.
They were first seen in Merritt on July 7th at a local gas station.
Verity Bolton was later spotted in Kamloops exiting the Superstore on July 15th.
RCMP say during the 11-day Amber Alert activation, 435 tips were received, from all over British Columbia, Alberta and even as far away as New Brunswick.
“We recognize that many people have been following this investigation closely since the AMBER Alert was issued and that there are many questions,” said the RCMP. “However, we are limited to the details that we can provide as this matter is now before the courts.
