The BC Wildfire Service is strongly encouraging people to reevaluate their travel plans if it includes a trip to Lac Le Jeune Provincial Park.
Information Officer Forrest Tower says the Ross Moore Lake fire is now estimated to be about two kilometres east of the popular getaway spot, which remains open for now.
“So still an alert, the fire not imminently threatening,” Tower said Thursday. “While there has been no rapid westward growth, the southernmost flank of the fire has expanded approximately two kilometres in the past three days.”
Evacuation orders and alerts remain the same since the update last Friday, July 28 that saw the Thompson-Nicola Regional District scaled back orders for 327 properties which are now on an evacuation alert.
Eighteen other properties in the area remain on an evacuation order at this time.
Both the BC Wildfire Service and BC Parks say people in Lac Le Jeune Provincial Park may need to evacuate at a moment’s notice if conditions or the situation changes.
“BC Parks and the BC Wildfire Service will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as required,” a statement from BC Parks said. “Your patience during this wildfire season is greatly appreciated.”
“In the event of changing wildfire conditions, visitors in this park may receive limited notice to evacuate.”
The Wildfire Service reported increased fire behaviour along the south, west, and northwest flanks of the Ross Moore Lake fire, with increased activity expected on Thursday as well.
Tower also tells Radio NL there will be shuffling of resources between the Ross Moore Lake, Bush Creek East, and Lower East Adams Lake fires as needed as crews work contain all three blazes that make up the so-called Adams Complex near Kamloops.
“There is a lot of line that we need to be able to hold on all three fires in our area,” Tower said.
“All three fires are at a pretty critical point in terms of needing to keeping them where they are with the Lower East Adams one sort of the unfolding, emerging priority.”
As of 8 a.m. Thursday, the BC Wildfire Service said no structures were lost to the Lower East Adams Lake fire after a significant flare-up Wednesday afternoon forced the evacuation of properties on the east shore of Adams Lake.
