RCMP are investigating a shooting at a Brentwood Avenue home in North Kamloops that sent one man to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police say they were called to the area just after midnight Friday, Aug. 18, for a report of shots fired and a person screaming. They say they arrived to find a man in his 30s suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound.
Mounties also say a suspect was allegedly seen running towards the North Thompson River.
“The investigation is still in its infancy and a visible police presence remains in the area while officers secure the scene, canvass the neighbourhood, and collect evidence that may be related,” RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn, said. “We are requesting that residents please contact police as soon as possible if they have any security or dash camera footage from the area, or if they heard or saw anything that may be related.”
Evelyn says the Southeast District Emergency Response Team and the RCMP’s police dog team were involved in the search for the suspect, but so far, the search has come up short.
“The Kamloops General Investigations Support Team, Serious Crimes Unit, and Forensic Identification Service Unit are assisting to advance the investigation,” Evelyn added. “At this time, the shooting appears to be targeted.”
People with information are being told to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2023-29729.
