As wildfires continue to burn across the province, Kamloops is being hit with dangerous levels of smoke.
With that, Glenn Hilke the operator of the Loop in Kamloops says he has thousands of N-95 masks to give away to people in need.
“We held on to them for the ‘just in case situation’ which we happen to have right now,” he said. “So, we have free M-95 masks that we can give to individuals, organizations or faith groups — for anyone that is planning to go outside.”
Hilke stresses the current air quality in Kamloops has to be taken seriously.
“I know some people do better so to speak or worse in this situation, but the particles of wildfire smoke, once they get in your lungs, they do not go out easily.”
The N-95 masks can either be picked up at the Loop, located at 405 Tranquille Road, or by calling 250-879-0465.
Environment Canada’s Air Quality index in Kamloops is sitting at a 10+, which is considered to be very high risk.
On the international scale, the air quality is considered to be hazardous in Kamloops, exceeding the 500 mark, Monday.
