BC Hydro crews are making progress re-energizing critical infrastructure in the North Shuswap.
Spokesperson Susan Edgell says this week, crews have re-energized the Little Shuswap Sewer Lagoon as well as Scotch Creek Medical Centre.
“These are some small wins for the community, and Hydro is pleased to be able to have these little wins happening right now.”
Meanwhile, Edgell says crews are roughly 50 per cent complete digging and prepping holes for the 430 power poles that need to be replaced.
“That is happening along several areas, the first is the straight stretch between Squilax Bridge and Holding Road, this is also taking place between Lee Creek and Scotch Creek, and Scotch Creek to Celista.”
Crews are also replacing about 27 kilometres of power lines and 66 pieces of other equipment that was damaged by the Bush Creek East Fire earlier this month. As digging continues for the power poles, Edgell says the biggest concern for crews is “danger trees”
“That is an ongoing process as crews make their way from one area to another, we have to really be careful to asses and make sure none of the existing trees are going to be an issue as we re-string our wires.”
The Crown Corporation says it has “significantly” increased the number of workers on the ground over the past couple of days.
Around 3,000 Hydro customers on the north shore of Shuswap Lake, as well as around Adams Lake, have been without power since August 18.
