Kamloops RCMP say bones discovered by a passerby along the Thompson River over the weekend are suspected to be “human and archeological” in nature.
RCMP spokesperson, Cpl. Crystal Evelyn, says the bones were embedded in the clay bank near the water’s edge. She says it was discovered by a person who was walking along the river around 6:15 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2.
Evelyn says the area was briefly closed to the public as police and the BC Coroners Service along with its anthropologist investigated.
“Based on the preliminary findings, the bones are believed to be human and archeological in nature, at this time,” Evelyn said, noting both the RCMP and the Coroners are continuing to investigate.
Mounties are asking people with information or those who come across bones that are suspected to be human, to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.
