Kamloops native Tyson Galloway has been named the 31st captain in Calgary Hitmen history.
The 20-year-old Galloway, who is into his fifth and final season WHL season, has played 183 WHL games with the Hitmen since he was drafted in the second round, 25th overall, in the 2018 WHL prospects draft.
A fifth round pick of the St. Louis Blues in the 2021 NHL Draft, Galloway was most recently at Calgary Flames training camp before being sent back to the WHL.
“Being a part of this organization as long as I have is very special and this a huge honour,” Galloway said.
“These guys make it easy to come to the rink and have fun. I look forward to getting to work and going to battle with this team every day.”
The six-foot-four defenceman is coming off a career year in assists and points, putting up 29 points (three goals and 26 assists) in 64 games in the 2022-23 season. That leaves him with 62 points (12 goals and 50 assists) in the WHL regular season.
“Tyson has been a huge part of our team’s leadership and culture for the past several years. He is driven, focused and able to set the tone for our room,” Hitmen Head Coach Steve Hamilton said.
“He will continue the tremendous legacy of leadership for the Hitmen this season.”
Galloway will be joined by alternate captains Sean Tschigerl, Grayden Siepmann, and David Adaszynski.
“We are well represented with the leadership group for the 2023-24 season represented by four players that have been drafted and developed within the organization,” Hamilton added.
“Each player brings qualities that represent and support the vision of leadership that we have come to expect from Calgary Hitmen players.”
