There will be a change in ownership at Mike Wiegele Heli-Skiing.
The Blue River-based businesses has announced plans to sell its operations to Alterra Mountain Company based out of Denver, Colorado.
The sale, which comes about two years after the death of Mike Wiegele in June 2021, is expected to be finalized by the end of this year, subject to certain closing conditions and regulatory approvals.
Mike’s wife Bonnie and daughter Michelle have been leading the businesses – which has been been in operation since 1970 – since then.
“Mike and I were always committed to an enduring future for the business,” Bonnie Wiegele, said in a statement. “A future that would honour our commitments to mountain safety and stewardship, to an exceptional powder skiing experience, to our committed guides and staff, and to the relationships we have formed with partners and guests from around the world.”
“The sale to Alterra ensures MWHS will continue to be one of the most unique powder skiing experiences in the world for the next 50 years.”
Alterra already owns Blue Mountain in Ontario, Mont Tremblant in Quebec, and Canadian Mountain Heli-Skiing & Summer Adventures (CMH) which has 11 heli-ski destinations across the BC Interior.
“Alterra is the ideal partner to celebrate and preserve Mike’s legacy,” Mike Weigele Heli-Skiing General Manager Elias Ortner added.
“Becoming a part of the Alterra family will propel our operation to new heights, allowing us to further enhance the guest experience as well as deepen our existing community and loyal guest partnerships.”
Mike Wiegele Heli-Skiing says the terms of the transaction will not be disclosed.
