It’s been a goal scoring start for Logan Stankoven’s professional hockey career.
The 20-year-old Kamloops native scored once on Friday night and another on Saturday as the AHL’s Texas Stars took on the Tucson Roadrunners. Texas, the Dallas Stars’ affiliate, lost both games by a goal – 3-2 on Friday night and 2-1 on Saturday.
Stankoven’s debut goal came off a one-timer on a power play tied the game against the Tucson Roadrunners, the AHL affiliate of the Arizona Coyotes, at 2-2 late in the second period.

The next night, Stankoven buried a feed from Mavrik Bourque at 6:13 of the third period to cut Tuscon’s lead in half, but the Stars were unable to find a second goal on the night.

“I wouldn’t say it’s easy whatsoever. It’s just right spot, right time, and obviously great plays by my teammates as well,” Stankoven said of his fast start to pro hockey. “I don’t expect to score every game, but obviously it’s a nice way to start off individually. I think as a team and collectively, it’d be nice to pop a few more in the net.”
The 20-year-old Stankoven was a second round pick of the Dallas Stars in the 2021 NHL Draft. He is likely be one of the Stars first call-ups to the NHL this season if they run into injuries.
“Chances are always hard to come by. I think that’s what I’m learning, at least the first two games,” Stankoven added in a post-game scrum Saturday. “It’s fast hockey, and it’s obviously harder to create, so I’ve got to kind of use my speed and get in on the forecheck more often.”
“[You see] the speed, and obviously the size of the players. You’re going up against grown men out there, so you’ve got to keep your head up. It was nice to get six preseason games in [with Dallas] and get ready for this.”
Fellow Blazer Matthew Seminoff also made his pro debut with the Texas Stars in Saturday’s game after being held out of the lineup Friday.
Meanwhile, Olen Zellweger, the reigning CHL Defenceman of the Year, also picked up his first points in professional hockey as a member of the San Diego Gulls this weekend.
Zellweger, the Anaheim Ducks prospect, had a pair of assists in the Gulls 4-1 win over the Ontario Reign, the AHL affiliate of the LA Kings. He also added an assist in the Gulls 6-4 win over Ontario on Sunday.

Kamloops native Joe Hicketts – who signed a one-year, $775,000 contract with the Kings in July – had three assists for the Reign over the weekend.
Also over the weekend, Jakub Demek, a Vegas Golden Knights prospect, picked up his first pro hockey points with the Henderson Silver Knights in a 7-3 win over the Iowa Wild on Saturday.
