The BC River Forecast Centre has issued a high streamflow advisory for the Kamloops area due to an atmospheric river storm that is expected to bring heavier localized rainfall to the Interior Wednesday.
The advisory covers the North Thompson River including small streams around Clearwater, Blue River, and surrounding rivers; and the South Thompson including small streams in the Chase and Sicamous areas.
It also covers the the Upper Columbia River including small streams around Revelstoke, Rogers Pass, and the surrounding areas.
“An atmospheric river event is making landfall on British Columbia and is expected to bring heavier localized rainfall into areas of the Interior on Wednesday,” the River Forecast Centre said.
“Current weather modelling is indicating the potential for heavier rainfall rates (up to 50 mm) in areas around Revelstoke and surrounding areas to the west and east.”

This high streamflow advisory comes as the Kamloops area – and much of the Interior – remains on Drought Level 4, the second highest in the province’s six-level scale.
“Heavy rainfall may exacerbate runoff from areas that experienced severe wildfires this past summer, including the Bush Creek fire,” the River Forecast Centre added.
“Localized high flows and erosion are possible in areas. No significant flooding on larger rivers is expected.”
