Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for parts of the Kamloops area, warning of freezing rain later this week.
It is warning of possible slippery and icy conditions on the Merritt to Kamloops section of the Coquihalla as well as the Okanagan Connector from Merritt to Kelowna on Thursday, Nov. 2.
“A low pressure system will move onto the B.C. coast Thursday,” Environment Canada said. “Warm air aloft will accompany the system and freezing rain is expected to develop over the Southwest Interior of BC, particularly over higher elevations and highway passes.”
Similar weather statements calling for freezing rain are also in effect on Highway 3 between Hope and Princeton and in parts of the Cariboo, Chilcotin, the Salmon Arm area, and the northern parts of the Okanagan Valley.
The weather agency also says the Trans-Canada Highway between Eagle and Rogers Pass could see between 5 and 10 cm of snow on Thursday.
“Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions,” Environment Canada added. “Road conditions are available at DriveBC.”
