The Kamloops Film Society is on the lookout for a new Executive Director.
It comes as the incumbent, Dusan Magdolen is moving on to a new job as the Culture Services and Events Manager with the City of Kamloops.
“It is in the arts and culture sector which is an area I’m very passionate about,” Magdolen told Radio NL.
“I’m going to have my fingers in a lot of different arts and culture pieces. I have really, really, really big shoes to fill because this is at least partially the role that Barb Berger had, but I know I have the passion for arts and culture in Kamloops so I think that will serve me well.”
CAO David Trawin announced earlier this month that Berger – who was most recently working as the City’s Recreation, Social Development, and Cultural Manager – retired on Oct. 20.
“We are in the process [of hiring] but not quite ready to announce, a Cultural Manager and a Recreation Manager, which will replace Manager – or Assistant Director for lack of a better word – Berger,” Trawin said Oct. 17.
Magdolen says it was a difficult decision for him to move on from the Kamloops Film Society, having spent the last 15 years with the organization.
“I’m not leaving because I was unhappy or there was anything sort of wrong so to speak at the Film Society,” he added. “It’s a great organization to work for. The board is wonderful, I mean a lot of people on the board I’ve worked with for the whole 15 years.”
“It’s been the greatest job of my life.”
Magolden is set to start his new job with the City of Kamloops on January 2.
“Its going to be a year of transition [for the Film Society] but I have faith in the board and our Operations Manager Radhika [Tabrez] to get the organization through it,” Magdolen said.
