Dylan Sydor scored his first career WHL hattrick, but it wasn’t enough as the Kamloops Blazers fell 6-3 to the Spokane Chiefs Saturday night.
The Kamloops native – who leads all Blazers skaters with 14 goals – scored once in the first and twice in the third period in what was the third meeting of the season between these two WHL Western Conference teams.
Spokane’s Owen Martin and Sydor traded goals in the opening six minutes of the game at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena to leave the two teams tied at 1-1 after the first period.
Goals from Berkly Catton and Conner Roulette had the Chiefs up 3-1 after the second, before Sydor – and the Blazers – fought back.
The 20-year-old Sydor scored at 3:12 of the third period, and completed his hattrick at 11:46 of the final period, tying the game at 3-3.

The Blazers weren’t able to capitalize on that, as Catton, Martin, and an empty net goal from Chase Bertholet sealed the win for Spokane.
Blazers captain Fraser Minten was credited with the secondary assist on each of Sydor’s goals, giving him seven points in five games this season. Kamloops native Carter Streek, a member of the Chiefs, was held scoreless on the night.
The announced attendance was 10,366 fans on what was student ticket promotion night in Spokane. The U13 T1 Blazers were in attendance at the game Saturday.

Their next home game is on Wednesday, Nov. 22, against the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
