UPDATE 4 p.m. – Kamloops Fire and Rescue says there were no injuries after a house fire on the North Shore this afternoon.
Crews were called to the area of 12th Street and Sudbury Avenue around 1:45 p.m. for a fire that is believed to have ignited on the deck of the house before spreading.
Kamloops Fire Deputy Chief Ryan Cail says the blaze is under control, but there is no word on what caused it.
“Crews actually had a very aggressive attack,” Cail said. “We were very successful in the knock down and prevented a neighbouring home that was fairly close in proximity to the original fire. They managed to keep it out of that home as well, so a really great job by the firefighters today.”
Cail told Radio NL the two people who were inside the unit were able to get out safely. He says ESS will be working to find them a place to stay.
“At this time, we have two people that we did call ESS for their assistance in temporarily finding them a location to stay,” Cail said. “There is extensive damage on the exterior of the home on the deck.”
“As for the case of the fire, I can’t comment on that either. Our fire inspectors will come and find the origin and cause once the crews are clear and once the property is safe to go in and do an investigation.”
Kamloops RCMP say 12th Street at Sudbury Avenue has reopened to all traffic, following an earlier closure to allow firefighters to work.
