Merritt RCMP are asking for help in identifying where a goat that was attacked and killed by a pit bull last Friday came from.
Police say they were notified about a video posted online that showed the black dog “violently” attack the white goat inside a house. Mounties also say people inside the house – which was on the 2600 block of Granite Avenue – were “encouraging the attack.”
RCMP Staff Sgt. Josh Roda says Merritt police, the Southeast District Emergency Response Team, and the BC SPCA were involved in the search of the house under the Criminal Code of Canada and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
“Sadly, we found the remains of a goat during our search,” Roda said. “We are trying to identify where the goat came from. We would like to determine if the goat was stolen, sold or given away.”
Roda says the goat had a white body with some brown markings on the top of its head. It was also wearing a collar as seen in the video.
People with information about the goat are being told to contact the Merritt RCMP Detachment at 250-378-4262.
