A man who was robbed of his BMW at gunpoint in downtown Kamloops on Monday night says the vehicle was found in Abbotsford the following afternoon.
In a post on Facebook, Vancouver resident Arl Adlao says he was contacted by police in Abbotsford who told him his 2008 BMW 535Xi was found along the side of the highway about 300 kilometres away from where it was stolen.
“The officer who found my car said that my passenger side mirror are smashed completely broken and so far that’s the only damaged they have seen,” Adlao said in his post.
“The thief took my phone and my car keys, but mostly my stuff on the trunk are still in there.”
Adlao, who was waiting to pick up a friend of his near Prince Charles Park in Kamloops when he was robbed of his vehicle, says he attempted to track his phone on Monday night but was not able to do so.
Kamloops RCMP say no one was injured during the carjacking, which happened around 10:30 p.m. on Nov. 27 in the area of Nicola Street and 11th Avenue.
They say the suspect is described as a white man in his 40s, standing about five-foot-seven. He was wearing a baseball cap at the time and was last seen heading east on Nicola Street in the BMW. Adlao says the suspect was also wearing a black jacket at the time and had a “wrinkled face [with] a little bit of facial hair.”
“We are asking residents in the area of Nicola Street and 11th Ave to review video surveillance between 10:30 and 11 p.m. for the BMW,” Kamloops RCMP Staff Sgt. Janelle Shoihet said.
“While it is dark blue, it will likely appear black at night.”
Adlao says police in Abbotsford are still investigating in an attempt to identify and locate the suspect, who remains unaccounted for.
