Two people are dead after a head-on crash between a semi truck and a passenger vehicle on Highway 5 near Little Fort on Saturday morning.
BC Highway Patrol says emergency crews from Clearwater and Barriere were called out to the crash around 10:45 a.m. on Dec. 2.
Spokesperson Cpl. Mike Moore says police believe the semi crossed over the centre median into the path of the oncoming vehicle.
“Tragically, two occupants of the car were pronounced deceased at the scene,” Moore said. “No details regarding the occupants of the vehicles are being released at this time.”
“Initial investigation is focusing on the driving behaviour of the commercial truck leading up to the crash.”
Reporting by the Clearwater Times says the crash was between a semi truck and an SUV. It also notes the highway was closed in both direction for most of the day Saturday.
Conditions were described as snowy at the time of the crash, but its not known if that played a factor.
Moore says BC Highway Patrol officers out of Clearwater are leading the investigation with help from the RCMP’s from Collision Analysis and Reconstruction team, RCMP from Clearwater and Barriere, and Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement (CVSE) officers.
People who witnessed the crash or those with information about the events leading up to it are being told to contact the BC Highway Patrol in Clearwater at 250-674-2237 and refer to file number 2023-4801.
