A program which has helped feed needy families in Kamloops is coming to an end.
The organizers of the Rotary Family Dinner program have announced they’re calling an end to the years-long program.
In a post on social media, the Rotary Family Dinner organizers cite a lack of volunteers.
“We have made the difficult decision that we are unable to continue with our Rotary Family Dinners,” said the post on Facebook. “Our core volunteers are not available for a variety of reasons. This meal program does not happen without these folks – the leaders and the ones who know what needs to happen and when.”

It was initially launched by Kamloops Rotarians Devin O’Toole and the late Chris Seguin.
Seguin’s mother Deb says her son’s legacy provided a lot of help.
“They were there all the time, cooking and serving and making sure that we had enough people to serve and clean up the kitchen, and also sit down and have a chat with everybody,” said Seguin. “We were encouraged to socialize and never, ever judge.”
In announcing the move, the organizers of the Rotary Family Dinner program also took time to thank the community for their support.
“We have enjoyed getting to know you and watching your children grow,” said the note on Facebook. “Thank you all for the community you created and shared with us. A very special thank you to all who have supported us along the way – whether with a financial contribution or volunteering in any capacity. A special shout out to #KamloopsFoodBank – we couldn’t have done this without you!”
The Rotary Family Dinner program — launched in 2016 — would provide meals to needy children and their families twice a month during the school year, and once a month during the summer months.
