A tragic situation north of Kamloops, where four people are dead in two separate crashes along the Yellowhead Highway.
RCMP confirming three people in a Toyota Corolla were killed after slamming head-on into an oncoming Ford Sprinter van as the small car was attempting to pass a tractor-trailer.
Barriere Mayor Ward Stamer says that stretch south of Exlou is notorious.
“It’s right where you have two passing lanes that go into one, and it’s kind of a tough spot,” notes Stamer. “If you’re not getting back when you’re supposed to, and then you end up coming into the oncoming traffic, it’s not good for anybody.”
RCMP say the driver of the van was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Mounties say no further details on the crash are available, as the investigation is in its early stages.
Meanwhile, RCMP have confirmed one person was killed in a single-vehicle crash through Rayleigh at around 6am, after going off into the ditch.
Mounties say that person was the lone driver of the vehicle.
While there’s no word on what may have caused the crashes, DriveBC did have a heavy fog alert in-place through the morning from Kamloops through the Yellowhead corridor.
The Yellowhead Highway north of Kamloops has since reopened to full traffic.
