It is a busy day for the Kamloops Snow Angels program after the big dump of snow yesterday.
Volunteer Kamloops President Terri Hadwin says they’ve currently got about 60 volunteers who are helping local seniors and other residents with mobility issues dig out their driveways.
“But there is still I believe close to 200 seniors that are still looking for volunteers,” Hadwin said.
“So for those that are interested in helping out – maybe a team at work that wants to do some team building or you want to do some family bonding with your kids, get them armed with a shovel or a snow blower – and go and do some community good, that would be amazing.”
Hadwin says prospective volunteers will need to complete a police record check before they can be added to the roster.
“We try to match people up with individuals that are nearby them – either at their work or near their home – so that its not too inconvenient and easy for them to go and lend that extra support,” Hadwin said.
Interested volunteers can reach out to Kamloops Snow Angels program coordinator, Anita Jacobson here. People hoping to get a Snow Angel can reach out to Volunteer Kamloops here.
“The Snow Angels coordinator gets a phone call on the hottest day of the year because seniors at looking that far ahead and are that stressed out about wanting to get some support during the winter,” Hadwin said.
“I would say that this is the busiest time but we definitely get enquiries all year around.”
