While this continued snowfall is not great for the roads – or for shovelling – Sun Peaks Resort says it has allowed them to open up all almost all their runs at the ski hill.
“I’m in dreamland here,” Sun Peaks Marketing Director Aaron Macdonald said. “This is my baby here, so yeah, its quite good up at the resort.”
“Having that last 15 cm of snow fall over the last three days is definitely improved conditions and yeah, its definitely really good.”
Speaking on NL Mornings, Macdonald says nearly all of the alpine trails at Sun Peaks are now open after a slow start to the season because of a lack of snow in November and December.
“Just a few of the trails down a little bit lower mountain [that aren’t open] but yeah, all lifts are open,” Macdonald said. “We got 136ish trails open right now, 41 of them are groomed. It is soft packed up there so its quite nice.”
And with the snow expected today, Macdonald says it will help create some ideal conditions on the slopes headed into the weekend.
“Things are getting covered, which is great,” Macdonald said. “There is still some powder to be found out there, and after today, there will be some good snow.”
