Kamloops RCMP say an impaired driver was to blame for massive power outage in the Westsyde area this past Sunday.
Police say they were called to the area of Westsyde and Serle roads around 3:35 a.m. on Jan. 21, after a truck had hit a power pole.
RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn says police arrived to firefighters at the scene, but note there were no injuries reported.
“As part of the investigation, officers conducted a roadside breath test on the driver, which resulted in a ‘fail’ reading, indicating a blood-alcohol content exceeding .08,” Evelyn said.
“A Kamloops woman received a 90-day driving prohibition and a 30-day vehicle impound under the Motor Vehicle Act.”
According to BC Hydro, there were 572 customers in the Westsyde area who did not have power for several hours on Sunday.
Crews are currently on-site working to restore power to 572 customers in #Kamloops. They estimate power to be restored by 2:00 p.m. and will be sharing updates here: https://t.co/zCNRGsuYnV pic.twitter.com/9SZtqeGBh1
