RCMP say a “high-risk” offender was taken into custody after a standoff north of Kamloops this afternoon, Jan. 24.
Southeast District RCMP spokesperson Cpl. James Grandy says the 58-year-old man was the subject of several outstanding warrants for assault.
Grandy says the Barriere RCMP and the Southeast District’s Emergency Response Team were called to the area as the man barricaded himself inside a house on Creekside Road.
“After attempts were made to have the suspect exit his home on his own were unsuccessful, SED ERT utilized various tactics to safely arrest him,” Grandy said, in a statement.
He said the man was later arrested without incident, “with no risk posed to the public.”
The man – who was not identified – is in police custody awaiting a court appearance.
Police say no further details will be released at this time as the investigation is still active.
