A big fundraiser, organized by Olympic Alpine skier Nancy Greene-Raine, is once again kicking off at Sun Peaks Resort this weekend.
It’s the 27th TELUS Nancy Greene Alpine Classic, which sees teams come from all over B.C. to participate.
“We have teams coming down from Prince George, the Okanagan, a few from Vancouver –mostly brought by their sponsors who are using it as a customer appreciation event — and then local people as well, some of them haven’t missed one the entire 27 years.”
Greene-Raine says participants will get some coaching from a few Olympians.
“Coaching from Kelsey Serwa, Nancy Greene, Kathy Kreiner as well, she is an Olympic champion also, from Vancouver, and Elli Terwiel,” said Greene-Raine.
“Ellie Terwiel is our own Olympian, she raced in the Sochi Olympics from Sun Peaks and she is back; we have a whole crew of people.”
She says the event starts with a welcome party on Friday night, ahead of Saturday’s festivities on the ski hill.
“It is just for fun, it is not a serious event and it finishes with a gala on Saturday evening,” said Greene-Raine.
“There is also a live and silent auction, which will be online, meaning anyone in the community in Kamloops can go in and bid on the items.”
Greene Raine says the money raised this year will go towards building a new brick-and-mortar school in Sun Peaks.
The silent auction can be found here.
