Kamloops Mounties say they’ve determined that there was no criminality involved in the recent discovery of body near the Red Bridge downtown.
In an update Thursday, RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn says police no longer believe that the death was suspicious.
Mounties were called to an area near the South Thompson River last Tuesday, Jan. 23, where remains – which were later confirmed to be human – were discovered amongst the fire debris of what was believed to be a transient camp.
“Based on the findings of the sudden death investigation to date, police do not suspect criminality was involved and will be clearing their presence at the scene today, Feb. 1,” Evelyn said.
The identity of the person found dead has not been revealed.
Evelyn says police will not be releasing any further information, though she notes the BC Coroners Service is conducting its own investigation into the death.
