This weekend, the Kamloops music community will celebrate the life and legacy of Rod Little Sky Bandura, who passed away last week.
Rod could often be found rocking the six string around Kamloops, and he frequently performed with his wife Margit Gossage and the Margit Sky Project.
He also helped put on charitable events such as Music for the People which raised money for residential school survivors.
Doug Perry, owner of Perry’s Recording Studio in downtown Kamloops, calls Rod a dedicated guitar player who held a deep sense of loyalty to friends, and the art he created.
“Rod was a force to be reckoned with,” Perry said on NL Mornings. “He was a great guitar player and just a wonderful soul and man, and he just supported the music community and was an integral part of it.”
“When he put the guitar on, it just became part of his body and his soul and that came out in his playing and his song writing. I’ve known him since the 90s in the music business around town here and yeah, he has just touched a lot of people with his music and his word.”
A benefit for Bandura’s family will be held at 8 p.m. this Sunday, Feb. 4, at The Blue Grotto Nightclub. Doors open at 7 p.m.
Those who wish to attend are asked to bring a $10 donation.
