RCMP say a 26-year-old Kamloops man is facing charges after he was spotted behind the wheel of a vehicle while prohibited.
Police say an officer on foot spotted “a man he knew” driving a vehicle around 1:15 last Friday afternoon, Feb. 9.
“Recognizing the area was crowded, the officer did not pursue the vehicle and instead, waited until he had relocated it in an alleyway on the 100-block of Nicola Street,: Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said, noting the police vehicle is “out of service.”
“In the alley, the officer advised the suspect that he was under arrest, at which point he allegedly fled, striking the police vehicle in the process.”
Evelyn says the vehicle was eventually tracked to the area of 8th Street and Lethbridge Avenue on the North Shore around 12:50 a.m. the following day, Feb. 10, where a suspect was arrested.
Mounties say Tyler Murray Larocque is charged with flight from police, drive while disqualified, dangerous operation of a vehicle, assault a police officer with a weapon, and resisting arrest/obstruction.
Evelyn says he was held for a bail hearing and released with conditions and a next appearance date for this Thursday, Feb. 15.
People with information are being told to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2024-4023.
