The Thompson-Nicola Regional Library is holding its official grand opening for the Tiny Library at Aberdeen Mall over this Family Day long weekend.
It will start with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday morning, followed by family-friendly activities in the Aberdeen Mall food court on Saturday between 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.
“We have some special guests, we have Belle from Beauty and the Beast coming at 11 a.m., and we have Lolli-Pop the Clown at 2 p.m.,” Margo Schiller, the Kamloops Libraries and Engagement Manager said.
“All of the events are free and drop in.”
Schiller says the Aberdeen Tiny Library is the first new library to open in Kamloops since 1974.
“I wasn’t even born then, so that blows my mind! We are very excited and we know Kamloops is growing and I think a large percentage of that growth is expected in the Aberdeen/Pineview area,” she said.
While the tiny library opened its doors in November, Schiller says they still had to wrap up a few finishing touches ahead of this weekend’s grand opening.
But she notes there has already been quite a bit of foot traffic in 350-square foot space over the past three months.
“Some folks have come by because they did hear we were there but there have been several folks that have just popped by and it has been a happy surprise,” Schiller said.
“I think people are very excited we are in the mall. It is such a convenient location.”
