A near record-breaking tenth edition of Radiothon here on Radio NL for the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation this afternoon, Feb. 22.
Kamloops and area residents raised $230,379 over the 12-hour period from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., with the money set to directly benefit staff and patients at Royal Inland Hospital.
“There is always a bit of a lag as you know in terms of the numbers, but now the numbers are there, and Kamloops has done it again,” Rob Splane from Radiothon title sponsor, Sun Country Toyota, said.
Added RIH Foundation Board Chair Dino Bernardo, “I think the generosity of the Kamloops people have been fantastic to the foundation, and keep up the good work Kamloops, you did a great job.”
RIH Foundation CEO Heidi Coleman says it would not have been possible without the donations big and small from residents and sponsors as well as the many volunteers who came out to help.
“It’s a community, its a family affair and from Williams Lake to Barriere to Merritt to Lillooet everybody is here and so its very exciting to know that we are funding equipment for other equipment and not just ours,” Coleman said.
“Of course we are the tertiary care hospital, so when you need it, we’re here and we’re strong.”
Over the last ten years, Radiothon has raised around $1.7 million for the RIH Foundation.
Last year’s edition of Radiothon raised a little over $260,000.
