A Kamloops soccer player is taking his taking his talents to Slovenia.
Alesandro Comita has signed a professional contract with Slovenian second division side ND Gorica.
“It’s been a dream since I could remember, signing a contract and being able to play with a team like ND Gorica is incredible,” Comita said, in a TRU WolfPack news release.
“It means everything to me that all the hard work I have put in and will continue to do has paid off. I don’t think it has quite sunk in yet about what kind of opportunity this is and how cool it is to be playing soccer here in Europe. There is so much history and passion here, which is so amazing as well.”
ND Gorica are currently fourth in the Slovenian Second Football League with 31 points in 18 games.
Comita began his playing career with the Kamloops Whitecaps Academy and the Thompson Okanagan Football Club, before he joined the Whitecaps U-17 team in Grade 10.
He returned to Kamloops to play for the TRU WolfPack in 2022, and helped them win a U SPORTS National title that fall.
Alesandro scored the opening goal of the championship game in extra-time before his brother Domenico scored the winning penalty as TRU Beat the UBC Thunderbirds in a shootout.
