Kamloops RCMP are looking for a trio of suspects after a person was robbed of their truck at gunpoint in the Batchelor Heights area on Friday night, an incident which also led to injuries to a police officer.
Mounties say they were called to reports of the carjacking in “an open area” near Batchelor Hills Drive and Lac Du Bois Road, around 9:25 p.m., on March 1.
“The report was quite violent and included the presence of a firearm, a smashed window to gain access to the truck, and an assault with a weapon of its sole occupant,” RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said.
“The suspects – two men and a woman – fled in a burgundy truck they had arrived in, along with the victim’s grey Ford F-150 pickup.”
Evelyn says the Ford truck was found by the Red Bridge, where the occupants rammed a police vehicle before fleeing from the scene. She says the officer who was injured is expected to recover.
Police say the stolen truck was seized after it was abandoned near St. Paul and McIntosh streets in the City’s West End about 1:30 the next morning, though none of the suspects were found nearby.
“Before it was abandoned, the stolen vehicle was observed driving through the downtown core, including on 2nd Avenue, Nicola Street, and Lorne Street, before it was ditched by the suspects, who may have been picked up by another vehicle nearby,” Evelyn added.
“We are asking the public and businesses in the area to please have a look at any dash camera or security video they have, to see if it captured anything that could help further the investigation.”
The stolen truck is described as an early 2000s grey Ford F-150 pickup with a white canopy, while the suspects’ vehicle was described as an older style burgundy GMC pickup.
Mounties say the two male suspects were approximately five-foot-10, wearing dark hoodies, with one also wearing a mask. A woman with a small build who was spotted in the stolen truck was described as wearing a “multi-coloured jacket with images of different shapes.”
People with information are being told to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2024-6230.
