The Toronto Raptors have re-signed South Kamloops Secondary graduate Kelly Olynyk to a contract extension, less than a month after acquiring him from the Utah Jazz at the NBA Trade Deadline.
While the Raptors did not disclose the terms of the deal, ESPN reports it is a two-year contract worth $26.25 million.
The 32-year-old Olynyk is currently averaging 8.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 20.4 minutes in 59 games this season with Utah and Toronto.
“We’ve been a fan of Kelly’s game for a long time and are thrilled he will continue his career in Toronto,” Raptors General Manager Bobby Webster said, in a statement.
“In addition to his unique skillset and ability to stretch the floor, Kelly is a leader and brings a veteran voice to our locker room.”
Drafted 13th overall in the 2013 NBA Draft, Olynyk is averaging 10.2 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 737 career NBA games, having also spent time in Boston, Miami, Houston, and Detroit
He played college basketball at Gonzaga University where his jersey hangs in the rafters.
Olynyk also captained Canada to a bronze medal at the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup in the Philippines, and is expected to feature at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
