Kamloops RCMP say proactive patrols led to the arrest of a man who was allegedly trying to break into a downtown business early Saturday morning.
Police say an officer was on patrol in the city’s downtown core just before 3 a.m. on March 2, when the officer was alerted to a break and enter attempt in progress on the 100-block of Victoria Street.
RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn says the suspect was found in the underground parkade at Lansdowne Street and arrested for break and enter and mischief.
“The proactive patrols were in direct response to the recent increased break and enter reports received in the area, and not only led to an arrest, but also to the prevention of a business break-in,” Evelyn said.
Mounties say the unidentified suspect was released with conditions and a court date, with charges expected to be recommended.
Police are asking people who witnessed the incident or those with video of it to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2024-6263.
It is not clear if this attempted break and enter was related to a recent string across Kamloops.
Mounties said last week they were “enhancing” their approach to business break and enters following that recent crime spree.
