A defensive collapse in the first period signaled the start of what would be a rout of the Blazers on Friday, as Kamloops went down to Kelowna 9-1.
Scoreless half-way through the first period, Marek Rocak would open up the scoring for the Rockets at the 10:02 mark of the first.
The Rockets would score just over a minute later to make it 2-0, and again just over 2 minutes later to take a 3-0 lead into the dressing room after the 1st.
Washington Capitals prospect Andrew Cristall with three assists in the period. He would end his night with a career best seven points.
Kamloops came out fairly strong in the 2nd period, and again, held the Rockets off the score-sheet for the first half of the frame.
However, Dylan Wightman would make it 4-0 just past the 12 minute mark.
From there, Kelowna would score another pair, making it 6-0 after 2 periods of play.
The Blazers did manage to get one back early in the 3rd, a power play goal from Blake Swetlikoff, his 7th of the season, to make it 6-1.
However, the Rockets — pushing to secure a “x” beside their name as a confirmed playoff contender — kept the pressure up, scoring three more in the 3rd, including a power-play goal at the end of the game with their top power play unit, to make it a 9-1 finish.
