A pair of athletes with connections to Kamloops have been recognized by Sport BC as part of its 56th award ceremony that honours the best in amateur sport in the province.
Nanaimo native Ethan Katzberg, who trains at the Kamloops Track and Field Club, was named the Senior Male Athlete of the Year after he won gold at both the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, and at the Pan American Games in Santiago Chile.
The 21-year-old Katzberg is considered a medal favourite for the hammer throw at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
Katzberg’s coach Dylan Armstrong was named Male Coach of the Year for his efforts in 2023.
Armstrong, the bronze medal winner in Shot Put at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, also trains Greg Stewart, who won a gold medal in shot put at the 2021 Paralympic Games in Tokyo.
