RCMP say a 35-year-old Kamloops man is in custody facing charges after a stolen truck was recovered by police on Friday.
Mounties say they were called to a house on Alexander Avenue on the North Shore around 5:45 a.m. last Friday, March 8, after a vehicle was reported stolen.
RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn says police arrested a suspect who had returned to that location around 8:30 a.m., but noted that the truck was still missing.
“Around 9:15 a.m., officers patrolling the area observed the truck and attempted to stop it, but it allegedly fled,” Evelyn said. “With the assistance of the Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP Detachment, the vehicle was relocated shortly after and a suspect was taken into custody without incident.”
Evelyn says Justin Edward Read has been charged with driving while prohibited, theft of motor vehicle, and failing to stop for a police officer. He was remanded into custody with his next court appearance set for Wednesday, March 13.
Police say a second suspect – who was not identified – was arrested and released with a court date and conditions.
“As the matter is now before the court the Kamloops RCMP will have no further comment at this time,” Evelyn said.
Mounties are asking witnesses or people with information that may be related to this investigation to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2024-6835.
