Kamloops RCMP say they seized weapons, body armour, and illegal drugs during a pair of traffic stops this week.
Police say they pulled a vehicle that had a burnt headlight over on Victoria Street around 4 a.m. yesterday, March 19, to find that the person behind the wheel was driving while prohibited.
They also say they saw a weapon as they were arresting the driver, noting a further search of the vehicle led to the discovery of two firearms, drug paraphernalia, and an illegal drugs, though police did not specify what kind or how much.
“Kamloops police officers continue to be proactive in the enforcement of illegal drug trafficking and weapons offences associated with violent offenders,” Kamloops Superintendent Jeff Pelley said. “These enforcement strategies continue to remove firearms, weapons, and potentially lethal substances from the community, and their successes are a testament to the officers who do this every shift.”
Police say two of the three people who were in the vehicle was arrested and later released with conditions and a court date, one of which was for driving while prohibited.
A third person was released without process, with Mounties saying they expect that charges will be forthcoming for the other two.
Mounties also say the Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP Detachment also seized a loaded handgun and body-armour during a traffic stop late Monday night, March 18. They did not say where that incident took place, but say it “ended up evolving into a trespassing investigation.”
They’re asking people with information that may be related to either of these incidents to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000.
