Sun Peaks Resort says the man who died after an on-mountain accident at the resort Thursday crashed into a tree on a beginner trail on Mt. Morrisey.

The resort’s management team provided that update in anstatement Friday

“While enjoying the mountain environment is not without risk, events of this nature are rare, and we strive to provide a safe environment for everyone,” the statement said.

“At this time, our focus is supporting those in need, including our employees who attended to the injured guest and have been involved with this situation.”

In the initial statement Thursday afternoon, Sun Peaks said it is cooperating with the ongoing RCMP investigation. It also said the BC Coroners Service is investigating the accident.

“Our thoughts are with everyone affected during this incredibly difficult time, and our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of this individual,” the Friday statement added.
