The Detroit Red Wings have signed Kamloops Blazers forward Emmitt Finnie to a three-year, entry-level contract.
The 18-year-old Finnie will report to Detroit’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins, on an amateur tryout for the rest of the 2023-24 season as the Blazers did not make the WHL playoffs.
Finnie enjoyed a breakout season with Kamloops, as he led all Blazers skaters with 59 points and 40 assists. He was also tied for second in goals with 19, and was named WHL Player of the Week in early February.
A fourth round pick of the Blazers in the 2020 WHL Prospects Draft, Finnie has 100 points (28 goals and 72 assists) in 174 WHL games. He also has seven points (four goals and three assists) in 14 playoff games.
The Red Wings selected Finnie in the seventh round of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.
