An internal shake-up is taking place at Kamloops City Hall.
Multiple sources have confirmed to Radio NL that Mayor Reid Hamer-Jackson has invoked executive powers to suspend acting Chief Administrative Officer Byron McCorkell.
Details as to what has led to the move have not been made clear.
Asked to comment on the reports, Mayor Hamer-Jackson declined via text message, saying only at this point that his “goals are to have a safer community,” saying as well that “we need accountability [in] specific areas.”
Sources say that Civic Operations Director Jenn Fretz has been tapped to take over McCorkell’s position as the interim CAO.
Radio NL sources also indicate that a special session of city council is being planned for Thursday to discuss the matter behind closed doors.
McCorkell took over as the interim CAO earlier in early March following a decision by Chief Administrative Officer David Trawin to take an unspecified leave-of-absence.
More to come…
