The Halston Bridge in Kamloops will closed in both directions this Sunday night to allow crews to continue working on repairs.
The bridge will be closed from 10 p.m. this Sunday, April 7, until 6 a.m. on Monday, April 8. Drivers heading to or from the North Shore at that time are being told to take other routes.
“A full closure is needed as part of the Halston Bridge rehabilitation project, which, once complete, will make the bridge safer with less maintenance required,” the Ministry of Transportation said, in a statement.
“The project includes resurfacing of the bridge deck, replacement of the deck joints and improvements at the east abutment.”
The year long project was expected to have been completed by May 2024, but its not clear at this time, if the project is behind schedule as work only got underway in mid-July.
The Ministry says once work is complete, the Halston bridge – which carries approximately 23,000 vehicles a day and connects Highway 5 North with North Kamloops – will be safer and require less surface maintenance than before.
